Consultation

Whether your object is a museum piece or a family heirloom, a dress or a wall hanging, it deserves a thoughtful and skilled approach. At Restauratieatelier Fenton, I work with you, the client, to create a treatment plan based on the needs of the object and your goals for its conservation.

Treatments

Once we have agreed on the treatment, I can get to work conserving your unique textile.

Cleaning, repairing and preventing further damage are some of the forms textiles conservation can take. There is a range of different treatment options depending on the type of object and its needs.

Washing can remove dirt and improve the texture of fibres

Solvent cleaning can remove dirt when washing with water is not advisable

Support treatment consolidates fragile areas of textile by adding a new piece of fabric as a support layer, and can be performed with either stitching or adhesive treatment

Camouflage hides holes or other areas of damage

Mounting displays an object beautifully as well as offering support
